The side deck on this Largo home had rotted boards and a framing section that had settled into the soil. The railings were still solid, so the homeowner asked us to rebuild the deck surface and frame without replacing the rails.
We removed the old boards, replaced rotted joists and support blocks, re-leveled the frame on new footings and installed new pressure-treated decking and a set of wide steps to the yard.
Project goals
Saving the existing railing kept the cost down while giving the homeowner an essentially new deck.
new frame and footings
Rotted joists replaced and the frame re-leveled on solid footings.
new decking and steps
Pressure-treated boards and wider steps fastened with coated screws.
Project challenges
The frame sat low to the ground with poor airflow, which caused the original rot.
- working around existing railings
- raising the frame for airflow
- replacing rotted support blocks
- building steps to meet uneven grade
The result
The deck is solid, level and safe again, and the homeowner plans to stain it once the new lumber dries. Planning something similar? Read more about our Deck Repair service or request a free estimate.
