Our deck repair service fixes the problems that make a wood deck unsafe or unsightly: soft and rotted boards, popped nails, loose railings, wobbly stairs and sagging sections where a joist has failed. We repair what can be saved and replace what cannot, so you are not paying for a brand-new deck when the frame is still solid.
In St. Petersburg, decks fight water from every direction. Daily summer rain, sprinkler overspray, shade and salt air keep boards damp, and fasteners corrode faster than they would inland. We probe the framing, check ledger connections and replace failing material with ground-contact pressure-treated lumber and coated or stainless fasteners.
Repair or replace your deck?
If the joists and beams are sound, replacing worn boards and railings costs a fraction of a rebuild and looks just as good once stained. When we find rotted joists, failed posts or a ledger pulling away from the house, we show you the damage and price a partial rebuild of that section only.
board and stair repair
Rotted or split boards and treads replaced and fastened with corrosion-resistant screws.
railing and frame repair
Loose posts re-anchored, railings rebuilt and failed joists sistered or replaced.
Our deck repair checklist
Every deck repair visit includes a safety check of the parts most likely to fail in Florida weather:
- probe test of boards, joists and posts for rot
- railing push test and post anchoring
- stair stringer, tread and handrail inspection
- fastener check and replacement of rusted hardware
Matching new boards to an old deck
New pressure-treated boards start out pale green or tan, so a repaired deck can look patchy for a few months. We explain your options up front: let the new wood weather for a season and stain everything together, or clean and stain the whole deck once the new lumber has dried out enough to take color.
For decks close to the water or under heavy shade, we often recommend a penetrating semi-transparent stain and a yearly wash. It is cheaper than repainting a solid-color deck that peels every summer.

Deck Repair FAQs
Replacing a handful of deck boards usually runs $250 to $600 including lumber and hauling. Larger repairs with railings or stairs are quoted after we inspect the frame.
Yes, as long as we can source matching boards. We also fix the wood framing under composite decks, which is often where the real problem is.
Like-for-like board and railing repairs generally do not. Structural rebuilds or new decks may need a permit, and we will tell you before any work starts if that applies.
Pressure-treated lumber needs to dry first. In our climate that is usually six to twelve weeks; we can come back to stain the whole deck at once.
